Summer Youth Employment Expansion
A grant from the Barr Foundation allowed Boston Youth Environmental Network to activate network members to swiftly act to take advantage of ARRA funds, address park maintenance labor shortages, get new projects off the ground, and tap the expertise and experience of other network member organizations.
Of Interest This Summer
Is your organization looking for volunteers? Or are you an individual looking to help out this summer? On May 20, Center Executive Director Ron Fairchild attended a meeting led by First Lady Michelle Obama and the Corporation for National and Community Service. At the meeting, the First Lady announced a new national summer of service initiative that is designed to connect volunteers with non-profit organizations this summer.
For Employers
With new funding from the federal Workforce Investment Act, combined with state and city funds, Boston will be able to subsidize the wages of approximately 800 additional teenagers who meet certain eligibility requirements. If your organization is interested in serving as a work site for one or more teenagers this summer, please contact either the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) or Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) for more information. The PIC and ABCD will identify and prepare the students, as well as manage payroll for qualified organizations. To learn more, please contact:
